A Symposium of Ancient Greek Poetry
On December 13, the department hosted a symposium of Greek poetry in which students of Greek lyric recited their own translations of Archilochus, Alcaeus, Alcman, Sappho, Mimnermus, Tyrtaeus, and Simonides and students of Greek tragedy performed excerpts from Euripides’ Heracles and Bacchae.
Staged Reading of “The Eunuch,” Translated by T. H. M. Gellar-Goad
On March 28th, there was a staged reading of Eunuchus, “The Eunuch,” written by Publius Terentius Afer (Terence), translated by T. H. M. Gellar-Goad, at the Ring Theatre. It was directed by Cindy Gendrich and funded by the Wake Forest University IPLACe (Interdisciplinary Performance and the Liberal Arts Center). Jay Buchanan plays Parmeno and Hugo Hernandez Villagra as Phaedria. Tut Gregory as Thraso and Charles Cicchino as Gnatho. Christian Carty as Chaerea, Eliza Drake as Thais, and Anne Peyton Brothers as Pythias. Also performing: Cameron Smith as Chremes, Charlotte Wu as Dorias and Sanga, Mary Wayne Thomas as Antipho and Sophrona, and Michael Littrell as Dorus and Dad.
NCCA Spring Meeting Hosted at Wake
On Saturday, March 17th, the Classical Languages Department at Wake Forest University hosted the North Carolina Classical Association Spring 2018 Meeting here in Tribble Hall!
