Ancient Greek role-play revives political debate

Dressed as citizens of Greece in 403 BCE, T.H.M. Gellar-Goad’s first-year seminar students have been debating whether Athens should expand voting rights, increase funding for social welfare or rebuild the military. “The role-playing game has helped me understand how democracy depended on active participation, debate and compromise, much like modern policy discussions. This experience has reinforced the importance of voting and political engagement today, as every individual contribution can shape broader societal outcomes,” said student Ojasvi Deep (’28).
